MONTREAL – Pierre Rolland, a music professor at the University of Montreal for nearly four decades, has died at the age of 80.
Rolland, who died on November 29th, taught at the university until recently and was the dean of the faculty from 1984 to 1988.

He also played the oboe and English horn and performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1984 after playing with the Halifax Symphony and the Ottawa Philharmonic .
Rolland was also known for his volunteer work, including his 25 years as artistic director of the Pro Musica Society.
He also hosted music programs on radio and was made a Member of the Order of Canada last year.
Rolland is survived by his wife, five daughters and 13 grandchildren.
