REGINA – The list of best restaurants in the country is out and it looks like Regina’s food and beverage industry just doesn’t make the cut.
Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants ranked the top establishments based on a panel of 70 judges including chefs, food critics, and elite diners.
Local restaurants weren’t all that surprised the Queen City was overlooked.
“I just had to laugh, it’s just absurd, there’s no other word for it,” said Greg Hanwell, the manager of Beer Bros. Gastropub & Deli. “People all over Canada have been ignoring Saskatchewan forever, we’re used to it and I don’t think we care.”
Judges were distributed by population, so larger provinces like Ontario had more representation.

However, the magazine’s editor Jacob Richler said even a smaller province like Newfoundland managed to land three in the top 50.
“Saskatchewan has over a million people and didn’t get that but it wasn’t because they had fewer judges because they had more judges then Newfoundland.”
Despite the lack of acknowledgement the restaurant industry is booming with plenty of options downtown alone.
The owner of Flip Eatery and Drink, Timothy Martin, said the growth in just the last few years alone is impressive.
“There are a lot of really good things going on in Saskatchewan right now and I think this list in like six months, we’d be on it. In a year, I don’t think we’ll be missed” he said. “We’re doing really cool things here.”
While Regina may not be in the top 100, it appears residents are still being well served.
