Trailer tractor spill creates barricade of pallets on Nanaimo Parkway

A crash on a busy Vancouver Island highway on-ramp caused quite the visual spectacle, but no serious injuries today.

A trailer tractor spilled as it was getting on the Nanaimo Parkway northbound from Highway 1 this morning. According to Mike Bagger of the Nanaimo Fire Department, it rode the guard rail before falling on its side.

Dozens of pallets and plenty of diesel fuel was strewn across the road, making it impenetrable for any cars wanting to head north on the Parkway.

Motorists heading north on Vancouver Island had to take Highway 1 directly through Nanaimo’s city centre while crews cleared the debris. The on-ramp has since been reopened, and the driver escaped serious injury.
