TORONTO – The cause of the fire that left a 10-year-old boy dead and five others injured in a Scarborough townhome last weekend was the result of unattended cooking.
According to the Office of the Fire Marshal, last Saturday’s fire began on the kitchen stove and spread up a staircase to the second floor of the Kingston Road townhome, trapping the victims.

The home was reportedly engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived just before 6 a.m.
The boy was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The boy’s mother and sister suffered serious injuries as a result of the blaze, while the father and two other children suffered minor injuries.
According to Office of the Fire Marshal, unattended cooking is the second leading source of fatal fires.
