EDMONTON – The Insurance Bureau of Canada is estimating that insured damage caused by windstorms in southern Alberta last month is at least $200 million.
The bureau says thousands of claims have already been filed for damage to homes, cars and businesses.

Numbers are still preliminary, however.
Heavy winds gusting to more than 100 kilometres an hour hit much of southern Alberta on the last weekend of November.
The winds downed trees, caused glass and debris to fly off buildings and made takeoffs and landings at Calgary International Airport difficult.
The high winds made it onto Environment Canada’s Top 10 list of weather stories for 2011.
