PM’s office calls lawsuit by Helena Guergis ‘groundless’

OTTAWA- The Prime Minister’s Office is brushing aside a lawsuit by Helena Guergis, calling it “groundless.”

The lawsuit alleges Harper and other Tories were involved in a “conspiracy” to remove Guergis from cabinet and the Conservative caucus.

It further claims that the former Ontario MP’s reputation and political career were damaged.

Harper fired Guergis from cabinet and kicked her out of the Conservative caucus last year.

He cited information he received involving allegations of criminal conduct and referred the matter to the RCMP, who later cleared Guergis of wrongdoing.

Legal documents filed by Guergis say the allegations, which were never proven, involved fraud, drug use and involvement with prostitutes.

The claims have not been proven in court and no statement of defence has been filed, but the prime minister’s office calls the allegations ridiculous.

Guergis sat as an Independent until this year’s election when she lost her seat.
