TV interview interrupted by explosion, flying manhole cover

TORONTO – A television interview was interrupted Sunday after an underground electrical fire in downtown Buffalo caused a small explosion, sending a manhole cover nearly 100 feet in the air.

Police closed off several streets after a fire was reported around 11:30 a.m.

Witnesses told NBC News smoke was pouring out of several manholes, resulting in the evacuation of two buildings.

A reporter for the local station was interviewing a witness when a explosion sent a manhole cover soaring into the air — and it was all captured on video.

According to NBC, three explosions occurred as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
