Video shows Iraqi military pull off dramatic dual-chopper rescue of Ramadi fighters

Iraq’s Ministry of Defence has released a video showing helicopters saving a number of troops under siege in the Islamic State-captured city of Ramadi.

The MOD video was accompanied with a statement claiming that the Iraqi armed forces were able to extract soldiers stranded in the al-Mulab district of the city, which is 115 kilometres (70 miles) west of Baghdad.

Troops were airlifted from a location on the outskirts of the city.

The MOD statement described the operation as “successful.”

Iraq’s government withdrew its military from Ramadi following the militants’ successful takeover at the weekend.

It was the Islamic State’s most significant advance since a US-led coalition began air strikes against the extremists last summer.
