CALGARY – If someone was looking from afar at the swearing-in ceremony of Alberta’s 17th Premier Rachel Notley, one might think it was more like a party at the Alberta Legislative grounds Sunday afternoon.
Complete with music and free popsicles, it was the first time a premier was sworn in outside, and on the steps of the Alberta Legislature. It was another indication of a new era of Alberta politics.
There was, of course, plenty of reaction on social media, including thoughts from Former Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith.
Supporters yelled “Rachel,Rachel, Rachel” while she was being sworn in and families played in the pool at the Legislature grounds while taking in the sights and sounds of history.
Many called the ceremony festival atmosphere and “party for the people.”
