Animal seizure from Temple home the largest in Calgary’s history

CALGARY – The Calgary Humane Society has released details on what they say is the largest animal seizure in Calgary’s history.

Officers with their Protection and Investigation team removed three dogs, three cats, 80 fish and 1,037 mice from a home in Temple on Tuesday.

The property was later deemed uninhabitable by health inspectors due to unsanitary conditions.

“By volume, this is the largest animal seizure in Calgary history,” said Brad Nichols, Senior Manager, Cruelty Investigations.

Of the 1,123 animals that were seized, 275 had to be euthanized due to injuries.

“It will take some time to sift through all of the veterinary evidence,” added Nichelo. “But it is fair to say that charges are pending.”
