SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – A man who fled into a remote area of Saskatchewan to avoid capture by the Mounties is now in custody. Aleksandr Levin was arrested in Swift Current late Monday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m. Friday, police were conducting a vehicle stop on Highway 4 near Kyle. Levin took off on foot into an area known as Matador Hills, which is described as remote and rugged.

Officers from a number of detachments, along with a plane from Civil Air Search and Rescue, searched the area for Levin to no avail.
There were concerns for his safety.

He was spotted at a Swift Current business Monday afternoon and arrested without incident.
Levin, 48, has been charged with flight from police and made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
