REGINA – A Regina police officer charged with drunk driving has been suspended with pay for 30 days.
The police service says there will be a hearing during that time to decide whether Cpl. Darryl Blampied (BLAHM’-peed) should be allowed to work until the charges are dealt with.

Chief Troy Hagen says the suspension is not punitive, but necessary to maintain public confidence in the police.
Blampied, who is 43, is a 10-year member of the force.
He was arrested Sunday after officers got word of a suspected drunk driver.
Blampied, who was not on duty at the time of his arrest, is to appear in court Feb. 9.
