Chief Troy Hagen says the suspension is not punitive, but necessary to maintain public confidence in the police.

Blampied, who is 43, is a 10-year member of the force.

He was arrested Sunday after officers got word of a suspected drunk driver.

Blampied, who was not on duty at the time of his arrest, is to appear in court Feb. 9.
