Man bitten by shark in North Carolina is fifth such attack in the past 2 weeks

AVON, N.C. – Authorities say a man has been bitten multiple times by a shark on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the fifth such attack in the past two weeks.

Multiple media outlets report a 47-year-old man was bitten on the back Friday while he was in the surf off Avon on Hatteras Island.

WVEC-TV in Norfolk, Virginia, reports the man was being transported to a hospital there.

Several children have been the victims of shark attacks along North Carolina’s coast this month including a 13-year old girl and 16-year old boy who both lost limbs about 90 minutes apart at Oak Island.

Red flags were raised at Avon alerting beachgoers of a shark attack.

Officials at the National Park Service, which oversees the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, weren’t immediately available for comment Friday.
