Video of aging school gets thumbs down from Alberta education minister

GRIMSHAW, Alta. – Alberta Education Minister Thomas Lukaszuk (loo-KAH’-zuhk) is angry over a northern school board’s attempt to highlight the condition of one of its schools.

The Holy Family Catholic School Division spent $7,000 to make a video of structural and maintenance problems at the aging Holy Family School in Grimshaw.

Lukaszuk got the video the day before he was scheduled to visit the building.

School board officials say they opted for the video after years of having their annual funding requests to the province turned down.

But Lukaszuk says the move was costly and unnecessary and that all the division had to do was send him a letter.

The education minister says the video could have paid for a child’s schooling for a year. (CHED)
