Summary: A riding heavily changed by redistribution, Liberal MP Judy Foote is hoping to be re-elected to a third term on October 19.

Boundaries: This new riding is comprised of parts of three former ridings: Avalon, Random-Burin-St. George’s, and Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor.

Last Election: If this riding had existed in 2011, the Liberal Party would have won the seat with 54 per cent of the vote, followed by the Conservatives with 30 per cent. Foote defeated Conservative candidate John Ottenheimer by 17.65 per cent in Random-Burin-St. George’s last election.

History: All of the former ridings that comprise this new riding have been strongly Liberal for the last four elections. They elected just one Conservative between them between 2004 and 2011.

Demographics: English was the mother tongue of 99.13 per cent of people in the 2011 census, the second highest number in Canada. The median age of 47.1 is the highest in Atlantic Canada.
