LETHBRIDGE – Bigs and littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters took to the sky on Sunday, experiencing an aerial view of the city.

The organization held its annual Fly Day, partnering with Excel Flight School to thank everyone who works and participates with the organization on a yearly basis.

Bigs and littles enjoyed a barbeque lunch, games and, of course, flights in small private aircraft at the airport.

Kaci McLaughlin, who is an only child, is matched with big sister Kelly Bateman. Both took to the sky on Sunday.

“It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be,” laughed McLaughin. “The pilot did some round about things… some cool rollercoaster moves.”

Big Brother Big Sisters pairs children and teens with older mentors, hoping to create special bonds they might not have at home.

“It’s so exciting for them and their big… we’re all about experiences and having bigs give littles something they wouldn’t maybe have,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Lethbridge and District Executive Director, Jen Visser. “Going up in a plane with their big, they’ll never forget that! It’s so important for them to have that relationship.”
