CALGARY – Former MuchMusic VJ Ed the Sock is encouraging Calgarians to donate to a campaign that collects socks for the city’s homeless.
The campaign was launched in response to a medical survey conducted at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre in 2010.
“Over 25 per cent of respondents reported sore/hurting feet,” said Executive Director Debbie Newman in a news release. “Unfortunately, foot heath continues to be a major challenge for many people.”

Organizers hope to collect 1,000 pairs of socks.
“Cold feet aren’t limited to stag parties, homeless Canadians deal with them all winter. And you know our winters,” said Ed the Sock. “For the homeless, socks are survival. And c’mon, they’re cheap – so don’t you be.”

New or used socks can be dropped off at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Organizers say the socks must be clean, dry and warm – but can be mismatched.
