SASKATOON – Poisonous mushrooms might be the reason some dogs in Saskatoon have become sick recently. According to officials with the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, autopsies found mushroom stems and caps in the stomachs of two dogs who died.
Also, the symptoms presented were consistent with mushroom poisoning.

This comes after suspicions the dogs were maliciously poisoned, but toxicology tests turned up negative for the chemicals.

The college recommends dog owners check their yards before letting their canines out to play and for the time being, keep them leashed while in dog parks.
Cold weather should take care of the fungi in the coming days and weeks.
