Young man dead after being hit by vehicle at Surrey bus stop

A 22-year-old man is dead after being hit by a Jeep at a Surrey bus stop this morning.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. The vehicle, which was driven by a 17-year-old girl, crashed into a covered bus shelter on the southeast corner of Fraser Highway and 156th Street.

The victim, 22-year-old Evan Archibald, was taken to hospital, but later died of his injuries.

“He was waiting at the bus stop, waiting to go to work,” said Karla Drew, his mother.

“Why did this happen? There’s too many kids dying on the road. You don’t think you’re going to wake up and find your son died, just doing nothing. Just waiting for the bus stop.”

RCMP believe the slick road helped cause the accident, and say speed may also have been a contributing factor.

“People just need to drive safe out there,” said Chantelle Archibald, Evan’s sister.

“If you’re in a hurry, slow down…I don’t know what the reason was for the accident, but be careful.”
