$100M Lotto Max jackpot up for grabs Friday

Lotto Max ticket holders all over Canada are holding their breath in anticipation of Friday night’s draw, where one of the largest collective lotto jackpots in Canadian history is up for grabs.

A total of $100 million in prize money could be won, made up of a $50 million jackpot and 50 Maxmillions draws of $1 million.

Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won more than 1.4 billion dollars in prizes. Ontario has seen 23 jackpot wins and 140 winners of million-dollar subsidiary jackpots.

1. $390 million (USD), Mega Millions
This jackpot was won in March 2007 by two ticket holders, one in Georgia and one in New Jersey. With a cash payout totaling $233.1 million, it became the third largest win in American lottery history.

2. €147,807,299.08 ($250 million USD), SuperEnalotto
In August of 2009 a very lucky resident of Bagnone, Tuscany won the SuperEnalotto, Italy’s biggest lottery, for the first time in seven months.

3. $54 million (CAD), Lotto 6/49
The largest jackpot ever won in Canada went to a Lotto 6/49 player from Camrose, Alberta in October 2005.

4. $365 million (USD), Powerball
In February 2006, eight lucky co-workers at a meat plant in Nebraska won the largest one-ticket win in American lottery history. Of course, the winnings were split eight ways, but it still holds the title for a single ticket winning amount.

5. £161,653,000 ($260 million USD), EuroMillions
This ticket, won in July 2011, was the largest one time play in EuroMillions history. It also set the record for the largest jackpot ever won on one ticket in Europe.
