3 people charged following assault of Edmonton police officers

EDMONTON – Three people have been charged after three Edmonton police officers were assaulted over the weekend.

At around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, police noticed three people jay walking in the area of 105 Street and 82 Avenue.

When the officers approached the group, a struggle broke out. Police said the individuals became aggressive and assaulted the three officers.

“Public safety is our number one priority,” said Insp. Erik Johnson with the Edmonton Police Service. “While we appreciate that those visiting the entertainment district are there to enjoy themselves, we would like to remind the public to do so in a safe and responsible manner.”

Dylan Austin, 23, Jordan Royal, 23, and Savana Haynes, 24, have all been charged with assaulting a police officer. Royal has also been charged with obstruction. Haynes has been charged with obstruction and uttering threats.

The police officers were treated on scene for their injuries.
