Lise Thériault to temporarily step down as Public Security Minister

QUEBEC CITY – Public Safety Minister, Lise Thériault, announced Thursday afternoon that she is taking a temporary leave of absence for health reasons.

The minister faced intense criticism for the way she handled allegations of police  abuse against Aboriginal women in the community ofVal ‘Or.

The announcement comes a day after Premier Philippe Couillard rejected calls from the opposition for Thériault to resign, saying he had confidence in her.

Municipal Affairs Minister Pierre Moreau will be stepping in for Thériault in the interim.
