REGINA – A 55-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after a 28-year-old man was found dead on the Standing Buffalo First Nation on Friday.
At 3 p.m. CT on New Year’s Day, Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP responded to a home on the First Nation after a complaint involving a firearm. They arrived to find Mario Kaiswatum, a resident of the community, dead inside the home.

Maurice Maple, also from the Standing Buffalo First Nation, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Maple is currently in hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained before he was taken into custody.
The RCMP Major Crime Unit South, Regina Forensic Identification Section, Regina and Yorkton General Investigation Sections and the Office of the Chief Coroner are assisting with the investigation.
Maple is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday pending his release from hospital.
