WINNIPEG — If you don’t have your dog or cat licensed, beware, animal services officers could be coming to your door.
Several 680 CJOB listeners have reported getting a knock on the door lately, and being handed a $250 ticket.
Animal Services boss Leland Gordon says people might not like it but these types of spot checks are part of their job.

“It’s called deliquent license follow up so we will go through neighbourhoods and we go to people’s homes where people’s licenses have expired. We’ll also go to homes where people have never licensed their animals,” he says. “Without having enforcement, I think there would be a chunk of our population who would never license their pets. It’s just like with speeding. If there was no enforcement for speeding there’s a chunk of our population that would speed all the time.
The city handed out 641 of the tickets in 2014, those are their most recent numbers. That equals over $160,000 in revenue for the city.
