Man in search of morphine threatens staff at Red Deer pharmacy with needle

CALGARY – RCMP in Red Deer are searching for a man who threatened staff at a downtown pharmacy with a hypodermic needle he claimed was infected with Hepatitis C.

It happened at the IDA Pharmacy on Ross Street at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Investigators said the man threatened to stab staff members with the needle unless he was given morphine.

He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of drugs.

Police took Michael Wayne Demas, 41, into custody on Feb. 13.

He is facing several charges including robbery with a weapon and possession of a prohibited substance.
