Montreal white-collar workers approve deal with city

MONTREAL – The city’s 8,000 white-collar workers voted 81.4 per cent in favour of a new seven years contract.

It features a two per cent annual increase for the first 4 years, which would be from 2012 to 2015, with smaller increases until 2018.

“I’m very please with the agreement. I’m very pleased because it’s a win-win situation,” said Montreal mayor Denis Coderre.

The contract also includes changes to the pension plan, as demanded by the provincial government.

The workers had been without a contract for more than four years.

They called off their rotating strikes in late February after intense negotiations with the city.
