Manitoba curling legend Vic Peters loses cancer battle

WINNIPEG – Vic Peters, one of Manitoba’s most successful curlers, has died at the age of 60 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Peters skipped his Granite Curling Club based rink to three provincial titles between 1992 and 1997. He also won the Brier and a world curling championship bronze medal in 1992. Peters placed second in the 1997 national championship, losing to Alberta’s Kevin Martin in the final. His accomplishments also include a 2008 Manitoba Senior Curling Championship title. Peters was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame in 2005.

Curlers from across the country, including four-time world champ Randy Ferbey, tweeted their condolences Monday morning after hearing about Peters’ passing.

Peters was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2011.

Among those he leaves to mourn are his son Daley, who won back-to-back Manitoba junior titles in 2004 and 2005, and daughter Elizabeth, who played second on Kerri Einarson’s 2016 provincial women’s curling championship winning team.
