Hundreds gathered in downtown Toronto Wednesday to say goodbye to the city’s former mayor Rob Ford, who died of cancer last week. He was 46.
Mourners, many of whom were Ford supporters, walked behind the hearse carrying the former mayor’s flag-draped casket from city hall to St. James Cathedral.
Linked hand-to-hand, the late city councillor’s brother, Doug, walked with his sister-in-law and Rob’s widow Renata Ford and her two children, Dougie and Stephanie, as members of the crowd applauded and chanted “mayor for life.”
The politician, who was loved by some and loathed by others, served as mayor from 2010 to 2014.
He dropped his re-election bid after his cancer diagnosis, choosing to run instead as a city councillor – a seat he won with ease.
