POINTE-CLAIRE — Michael Mullin says, for as long as he can remember, Pointe-Claire Video has always been a part of his life.
But on Sunday, the iconic store will be closing its doors for good.
“I am sad to see this place go,” Mullin told Global News.
He said he remembers his family renting movies each week.
As he got older, Mullin continued the tradition – but rather than renting VHS tapes, he would patronize the store for its Blu-ray collection.
However, with people turning to streaming sites like Netflix, iTunes and Amazon, as well as online video game services, the store has been forced out of business.

Peter La Gamba, who owns the shop with his sister, said the store is currently liquidating its inventory, but will continue renting movies until its last day.
As for late fees, which used to be the hallmark of video rental stores in the heyday of VHS, La Gamba joked he’ll waive them for their customers.
Pointe-Claire Video closes its doors on Sunday.
