PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — A 25-year-old man is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of his landlord.
Police in Peterborough, Ont., were called to a home last month after receiving reports of a man armed with a knife.

Shots were fired and the man was rushed to hospital, where he has remained for the past month.
Police discovered the body of 52-year-old Cindy Torbar at the house.

John Lai, who was living at Torbar’s home while pursuing post-secondary education, is now charged with murder.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit, which probes incidents involving police in which someone is injured or killed, is also investigating the case.
