Consumer goods giant Unilever is closing its Saint John, New Brunswick call centre, putting 50 people out of work.
The consumer contact centre, which opened in the Loch Lomand Mall in 2001, will close Sept. 1.

At the time, then Premier Bernard Lord heralded the call centre as an example of how the provincial government was working to create jobs in New Brunswick and how businesses were attracted by the province’s bilingual workforce, competitive taxation levels and strategic infrastructure.

Unilever says it’s consolidating it’s consumer contact services for Canada with a third party provider based in Winnipeg.
The company is offering support to the employees affected by the closure.

Unilever is also closing a call centre in New Jersey in favour of a third party service provider based in Florida.

Unilever is an international giant in household consumer products, food and personal care items with annual sales in the range of $76-billion a year.
Its brands include Axe, Becel, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Breyers, Dove and Vaseline.
