Montreal Canadiens hoping to score with condos right next to Bell Centre

MONTREAL – It’s something some hockey fans probably dream about – being able to walk out their front door and straight into the Bell Centre.

Now the Montreal Canadiens are giving them a chance to make the dream a reality.

The NHL franchise is hoping to score with their involvement in a 48-story condo complex.

The Tour des Canadiens, which will be topped with the team’s fabled logo, will be located in Centennial Place in downtown Montreal next to the Bell Centre.

The spot is well known for its paving, which is made of bricks purchased by fans, as well as the statues of hockey legends such as Maurice Richard.

Canadiens owner Geoff Molson says the bricks and the statues will be stored while construction is underway and will be placed in a suitable spot when it is completed.

The Canadiens are partners in the condo project with developer Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd., Canderel and the FTQ labour union Solidarity Fund.

Prices on the condos start at $250,000.

The announcement comes amid reports of a softening condo market in some Canadian cities but the Canadiens say they are not worried because of the value the project will offer to buyers.
