It used to be a trend reserved only for refined palates – but now beer drinkers are wanting to quench their thirsts with craft beers.
Proposed changes to an existing city bylaw will make it easier for entrepreneurial brewmasters to set up shop in Calgary.
The hope is to rival other cities, like Vancouver, B.C. and Portland, Oregon that boast nearly 100 microbreweries each.

Calgary, by comparison, has 12.
The bylaw changes would allow craft beer makers to open in most commercial and industrial zones.
In addition, existing microbreweries would be allowed to expand their businesses and serve more customers.
A report on the proposed changes will be presented to Calgary city council on Monday.
