UPDATE: Alberta man arrested 1 month after officer-involved shooting
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday night in Red Deer, Alta.
ASIRT said the original call was for an armed man who said he had a gun and suggested he was prepared to use it on himself “or anyone who attended.”
Red Deer RCMP said officers were sent to a downtown apartment building at about 7:15 p.m. for reports of a “possibly suicidal armed man.” The man was shot by police “in their efforts to ensure public safety,” RCMP said Monday in a release.
ASIRT said three RCMP officers went into the building and found the man on the second floor. The man was shot once after a “confrontation.”
Police officers stayed at the building throughout the night to secure the scene.
The 28-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for his non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP said. ASIRT said he remained in stable condition in hospital late Monday afternoon.
