Head-on crash east of Ponoka kills 27-year-old woman

RCMP are investigating after a two-vehicle collision east of Ponoka killed a 27-year-old woman Thursday morning.

Mounties were called to a crash involving a pickup truck and a car on Highway 53, just east of Range Road 250 at 7:24 a.m.

The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man driving the truck was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries and has since been taken to hospital in Edmonton where he was later listed as being in stable condition.

Traffic was diverted from Highway 53 for several hours as police investigated.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash.
