Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 24-year-old man was injured following a shooting involving police in Brampton early Wednesday morning.
Peel Regional Police said officers responded to a call for a “disturbance” around 1 a.m. at a townhouse complex in the area of Newhaven Manor and North Park Drive.

The Special Investigations Unit said police confronted the man and shots were fired following a brief foot chase.
The male, who was shot “several times,” was taken to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto where he remains in critical condition.
The identity of the male has not been released.
Two subject officers and seven witness officers have been designated as part of this investigation and five investigators and four forensic investigators have been assigned to the probe.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates police incidents involving death, injury or allegations of sexual assault.
