While early in the investigation, police say it appears some disparaging comments may have been posted to a social media site, which culminated in the 15-year-old getting assaulted.
The victim sustained some bruising and a concussion and was taken to local hospital for treatment and later released.
No criminal charges have been laid at this point. The name or location of the school has not been released.
Investigators are monitoring social media sites and engaging students at the school to ensure no other incidents related to this occur.
