Surrey RCMP say they have seen a spike in break-and-enters using garage door openers left in vehicles.
Mounties say there have been 37 break-and-enters in between April and June where the suspect gained entry using a garage door opener left inside a vehicle. So far this month, there has been an 11 per cent rise in break-and-enters involving garage door openers.

“It only takes a thief a few moments to get into your car, find the garage door opener, and then have access to your home,” RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumman said in a release. “Take the time to remove all valuables from plain sight in your vehicle including garage door openers.”
The recent increase in break-ins comes after the city of Surrey experienced a 17 per cent drop in property crime and 12 per cent drop in residential break-and-enters during the first quarter of 2016.
