Ontario coroner to probe death at maximum security mental health facility

GUELPH, Ont. – Ontario’s coroner’s office is launching an inquest into the death of a 22-year-old man who died at a maximum security mental health facility three years ago.

Kulmiye Aganeh died on March 14, 2009 at the Waypoint Centre for mental health care in Penetanguishene, Ontario.

The inquest is expected to examine the events surrounding Aganeh’s death and a jury is expected to make recommendations to avoid similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last four weeks and hear from about 35 witnesses, according to a statement from the coroner’s office.

The inquest is scheduled to start Oct 2.
