Tourists can travel home with a taste of the Okanagan in tow

The Kelowna International Airport (YLW)has launched its long awaited Farm to Flight program.

YLW is the first international airport to offer fresh, local produce for sale in its departures gift shop, once passengers have passed through security.

The fruit will come from Okanagan orchards and will be packaged at a central facility, ready to take anywhere in Canada.

The packaging is even specially designed to fit under airplane seats and withstand turbulence.

The Farm to Flight program offers a unique market for local fruit growers.

“It’s about getting our brand out there,” Sam Samaddar, Airport Director said, “about the fruit products and what the Okanagan is all about.”

The fruit will be sold at the airport as it comes into season, starting with cherries, then moving to peaches, apples, and pears.
