Nova Scotia NDP leader Gary Burrill will be seeking the party nomination to run in the next election in the riding of Halifax Chebucto.
Burrill was elected to the legislature in 2009 and represented Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley until he was defeated in the 2013 election. He was elected leader of the party in February.

The riding of Halifax Chebucto is currently held by Liberal MLA Joachim Stroink, however it has a strong NDP past.
It was previously held by Howard Epstein and by former party leader Alexa McDonough.
“This is a long and strong association that people of this part of Halifax have had with the New Democratic Party,” Burrill said

“It seems to me fitting as our leader to offer myself for the nomination in Checbucto.”
He says constituents have been let down by the Liberal government — citing the film tax credit changes, high university tuition and labour negotiations as examples.
The nomination meeting for the riding will take place on July 26.
