RIO DE JANEIRO – Canada’s women’s rugby team was shut out by Great Britain 22-0 to wrap up pool play at the Rio Olympics.
Emily Scarratt scored a pair of tries, while Alice Richardson and Amy Wilson-Hardy each had one for Great Britain.

The Canadians meet France in the quarter-finals later Sunday.
Canada had already secured its spot in quarter-finals with routs of Japan and Brazil on Day 1, outscoring their opponents by a combined 83-0.
Canada is seeded third in the Olympic field behind No. 1 Australia and No. 2 New Zealand. Britain was seeded fourth.

The Canadians are favoured for a medal in Rio after capturing gold at last summer’s Pan American Games and finishing third on the world circuit this season.
Women’s rugby is making its Olympic debut, while men’s rugby returns for the first time since 1924 when the U.S. won the 15-a-side tournament.
