Thanksgiving Food Drive helps B.C. food banks

It takes a small army of volunteers for the B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive.  They come from community groups, churches and local businesses.

“I like to give back,”  said Michael Lavigne, who was helping out at the Central Okanagan Food Bank. “It feels good to volunteer, it feels good to help out.”

Plastic bags and pamphlets were dropped off earlier in the week, letting people know about the drive.

On Saturday, volunteers drove door-to-door, collecting the bags that are now filled with food.

The donations were brought back to local food banks, including the Central Okanagan Food Bank in Kelowna.

“I think it’s going to help a lot of people,”said Lorelei Ryder, one of the event organizers.  “But it would be nice if this went on all year long, like if you can’t possibly help us out today,  just help us out whenever you can.  Just come by.”
