NDP wants provincial action for rising aboriginal unemployment

The provincial NDP employment critic is blaming the Saskatchewan government for the growing aboriginal unemployment rate.

Cam Broten says rather than cutting employment programs for aboriginal workers, the government must come up with a growth plan that includes the aboriginal community.

The unemployment rate stands at 21 per cent for First Nations people and 10 per cent for Metis.

Statistics Canada reports the number of First Nations people working in the province is down by 1400 from a year ago, while the number of employed Metis has dropped by 1500.
