Province spending $225K to upgrade Porters Lake Provincial Park

The Nova Scotia government has announced $225,000 in funding to complete upgrades at Porters Lake Provincial Park in Porters Lake, N.S.

The money will go towards providing a new water system, dish washing station and making road improvements at the park. The province’s Department of Natural Resources says there was an increase of 835 bookings at Porters Lake Provincial Park this year over last.

“Porters Lake Provincial Park saw a great summer, with more visitors and locals alike experiencing all it has to offer,” Kevin Murphy, MLA for Eastern Shore, said in a news release.

“As the season’s end approaches, we recognize the successes, innovations, and improvements this year that have boosted our parks’ popularity.”

Officials say there was a record set in 2016 for bookings at provincial parks in Nova Scotia. In total, 70,000 campsites bookings were made, a 24 per cent increase over 2015.

In summer 2015, the provincial government committed to invest $328,000 to fix maintenance issues and provide upgrades at some of the region’s most popular parks along the Eastern Shore.
