The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) said Tuesday it was investigating what led to a use-of-force incident on Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue that led to “serious injury.”

According to ASIRT, beat officers with Edmonton police tried to issue a ticket for an open liquor violation near 103 Street and 82 Avenue at around 2:03 a.m. on Sept. 17. ASIRT said a “confrontation” broke out between the officers and bystanders “associated” with the man being issued a ticket.
