Teen charged after replica handgun brought to Rosthern High School

ROSTHERN, Sask. – A teen is facing a number of charges after some tense moments Wednesday at Rosthern High School. 

RCMP were called to the school after receiving a complaint a student was threatening other students with a handgun. 

Mounties arrested the student and seized the weapon, which turned out to be an imitation air pistol.

Police also learned the weapon had been pointed at students and they thought the gun was real. 

The 16-year-old male student has been charged with two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, using an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence and breaching a youth sentence order. 

He appeared in court today and is being held in custody until his next appearance on in Saskatoon on Nov. 26.

Under the criminal code, an imitation firearm is considered real if used in the commission of an indictable offence and is believed to be a real gun.
