The Muslim Student Association of Laval University held a news conference Tuesday night addressing Sunday’s attack on a Quebec City mosque.

The association said it sends love and prayers to all those who have been victimized by the deadly shooting attack and took the opportunity to denounce all hate speech.

The group said it will work with Laval University to offer counselling to students in need, with a goal to ensure that the school remains a safe environment for all.

The association said it also wants to recognize the overwhelming support they have received from fellow students and concerned people all around the world.

Attack in Quebec City
Sunday night, six people were killed and eight more were injured, including several children, during a shooting at the the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec in Sainte-Foy.
Police and public officials are treating the incident at the Quebec mosque as an act of terrorism.

In a message to Quebec’s Muslim community Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard said, “We are with you, this is your home, we are all Quebecers.”

The centre was also the target of vandalism last summer when a pig’s head was delivered to it during Ramadan.
