Truck driver dies after getting pinned beneath tire near Exeter

OPP and the Ministry of Labour are investigating a fatal workplace incident southwest of Exeter, Ont.

Huron OPP, EMS, and the South Huron Fire Department responded to a 911 call for assistance at a grain elevator on Kirkton Road shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located an unresponsive man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation has revealed a truck driver had just finished dropping off a load and had cleared the weigh station. The driver stopped to check on the condition of his trailer, and was found lying pinned beneath one of the tires, a short time later.

Investigators from the Ministry of Labour, OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team and OPP Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Unit attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The identity of the victim will be released pending next-of-kin notification.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled on Tuesday.
