Flooded out on Okanagan Indian Band land

A summer home owner on Okanagan Lake on Okanagan Indian Band land in the north Okanagan is sharing his experience with the flood event.

Ed Mussio is trying to save his cabin.

Mussio says the high water isn’t the only problem cabin owners are facing, but also the sewage in the water from outhouses and sceptic fields.

Mussio says he was in the water in chest waders checking on his cabin as well as his neighbours homes, and the smell of sewage was prominent.

He worries that even after the water goes down, it will be difficult to sanitize the cabins and clean up the yards.

As of Monday, Okanagan Lake was down by eight milimetres, to 392.409 metres above sea level.

Emergency Operation Centre personel say the level may fluctuate for some time and ground water could continue to increase.
